What the companies we track are trying to build: 7,621 filings from 75 companies, as the United States patent office recorded them. A filing dates the work; a grant is the same invention about 28 months older.
Two measures sit on this page and they are not interchangeable. Filings held is what we have read for a company, and for a diversified group that is its spacecraft-class filings only, because a portfolio over 1,500 applications is not a space signal. Spacecraft class is CPC B64G and is complete for every company here, which makes it the one figure that compares across the table.
Filings per year
An application publishes about eighteen months after it is filed, so 2025 and 2026 are still filling in and their bars will keep rising. Read them as the edge of the record rather than as a fall in activity.

Ordered by the spacecraft class, the column that means the same thing for every company. "Filings held" is what we read for each, which for a diversified group is its spacecraft-class filings only, so that column does not rank.
